How To Make Your Seasonal Cleaning Eco-Friendly

How do you keep your home eco-friendly when doing seasonal cleaning projects?

July 10, 2023

When the time for seasonal deep cleaning rolls around, how do you keep your cleaning routine eco-friendly while still getting great results? Read on for earth-friendly cleaning tips you can use all year round.

Make Your Own Cleaning Supplies

While there are countless cleaning supplies on the market, many of them contain harsh chemicals that you may not want in your home. If you’d rather go natural rather than mass-market, making your own cleaning products is a great option.

One of the most effective and widely applicable cleaning products you can whip up is a vinegar solution. Mix equal parts white vinegar and filtered water and add a few drops of essential oil for a pleasant scent if you wish. You can dip rags or sponges into the solution or decant it into a spray bottle depending on your preference.

Since vinegar is acidic, it does a great job of gently dissolving dirt, grime, and grease, as well as killing bacteria. At the same time, it’s all-natural and food-safe, so you can use it throughout the house without fear of spraying chemicals around your home or kitchen.

Use What You Have

It is important to have the right materials and tools when it comes time for deep cleaning. However, this does not necessarily mean that you need to buy things new.

Instead of buying new sponges or cloths, think about cutting up old t-shirts or towels to use as rags. Before you buy new buckets, are there containers you already have that could do the same job? If you look around, you might be surprised at what you already have on hand!

Reduce Waste

When you’re in the middle of a big cleaning project, it can be tempting to just open up a trash bag and stuff things in to get rid of them. While this might feel expedient, it’s not the most eco-friendly choice.

If you want to be more eco-conscious, think about taking the time to separate out what can be re-used, re-purposed, recycled, or donated. Keep the actual trash to a minimum and help the earth in the process!
